Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive procedure that is best for improving the look of spider veins on the legs. During treatment, a special solution is injected into the vein that irritates the vascular lining and causes the vein to deteriorate. Blood is then redirected through healthier veins and the treated vein is harmlessly absorbed by the body. Side effects are relatively minor and can include localized bruising, itching and redness. Dr. Bonakdar will recommend the appropriate number of treatments for best results.
M22 Nd:YAG Laser
Dr. Bonakdar recommends laser vein removal for Newport Beach and Orange County patients with spider veins on legs that are too small to treat with Sclerotherapy. The Nd:YAG laser is also effective for broken capillaries and cherry angiomas on the face and body. This procedure uses laser energy to selectively heat blood vessels and stimulate blood coagulation. In turn, the blood vessel walls collapse, resulting in destruction of the vein. Multiple sessions can produce dramatic and sustained results.
Radiosurgery
Radiosurgery removes spider veins and broken capillaries similarly to the Nd:YAG laser except it uses radio-frequency energy rather than laser energy to heat and seal blood vessels. Very small electric currents are transmitted to the blood vessels to promote blood coagulation and destroy unwanted veins.
