Your Skin is What You Eat

Your Skin is What You Eat

There are so many factors when it comes to having good skin, whether we’re talking about acne or wrinkles. Genetics, sun exposure, and even diet can contribute to “bad skin,” “good skin,” or even “great skin.” We’re convinced that people who say they have great skin due to genetics are probably just hiding their secret ingredient! Keep reading to learn about some of the best foods to feed your skin and keep it as radiant as possible.

Water

We often underestimate the power of water, but the truth is that water helps keep our skin cells hydrated and plump. Drinking enough water also ensures that your body is properly detoxifying itself, keeping pore-clogging toxins moving on their way out. Some people say that you need 8 glasses of water a day, but another method is drinking between a half an ounce and an ounce of water for each pound you weigh. So, if you weigh 150 pounds, you could be drinking between 75 and 150 ounces of water each day.

Antioxidant-Rich Foods

Some of the best foods help prevent damage from free radicals. Add in more berries, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, beans, peppers, beets, and apricots to help boost your antioxidant powers.

Vitamin A-Rich Foods

Foods with Vitamin A help repair damaged skin. Vitamin A can also boost collagen production (hello, youthful you) and regulate sebum production (which can lead to clogged pores). Carrots, Broccoli, and sweet potatoes all contain Vitamin A so load up and see if it changes your skin.

Green Tea

Some cultures have long known about the great effects of green tea on skin. Thankfully, we know about them, too! Green tea helps slow damage to DNA, shut down inflammation, and might even pose as a natural boost of sunscreen. Drink a cup a day of green tea and see if this amazing elixir needs to replace your morning coffee!

Chances are, you’re looking for a boost of radiance before diet changes can take effect. If you’re looking for more ways to improve your skin, give us a call today at (949) 721-6000 to schedule a consultation!
